Haus Yuriyal: a collective story, shared widely.
Rooted in PNG’s Highlands, Haus Yuriyal brought painting, textiles, architecture and a living garden to Brisbane’s 11th Asia Pacific Triennial.
Established in 2015, Haus Yuriyal is a collective working in Jiwaka and Simbu Provinces. QAGOMA describes how the group draws inspiration from cultural practices and the vibrant designs of kuman shields, developing work in paint, paper, plywood and wool.
For the 11th Asia Pacific Triennial, the collective worked alongside Veronica Gikope and Alison Wel on a display incorporating a functioning garden, architectural structures, shield paintings, textiles and video. This is an exhibition story from 2024–25, rather than a current event listing.
